Thanks-Giving

Thanks-giving! If I didn’t really know that the calendar was showing November 21, I would be convinced we were just days away from Christmas! Between

the overwhelming amount of Christmas commercials on T.V. and radio, most retail establishments have been hawking the big day since before Halloween. Even with Christmas music playing we are quickly becoming a society that is forgetting to slow down and say THANKS!

I have felt for some time now, that the Thanksgiving holiday has virtually been forgotten. Other than a day off to use shopping for gifts and a spring board for the full onslaught of the gift giving season, we really aren’t giving this day it’s just desserts (no pun intended).

I am old enough to remember a time when families truly slowed down to give thanks for all that we have been blessed with. Finding one store or gas station open was a rarity. When the pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes were made from scratch and the day was not about gifts or shopping or even football games but just about giving thanks.

As this Thanksgiving approaches and the pressures of life slow enough for us to take a breath, I hope all of us carve out just a few moments to say thanks for our lives, for the great country we live in, for the wonderful families we have, for our employer and employment, and the abilities we have been bestowed. As dinner is served and eaten, remember those who struggle daily just to have even one meal, and to remember why the pilgrims came together on Plymouth Rock. To celebrate a bountiful harvest, to share new found friendships and to say thanks for the life and freedom they cherished.

As president of Mark M. Holeman, Inc., I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you, our devoted, loyal and wonderful clients for your support and friendship through the years. Our business would not be here without your belief in us and your desire for the work we do. We are grateful for that blessing and are proud to operate our business in this amazing community. Thanks also for helping make this a most successful season and best wishes to all of your families.

We can’t turn back time to a simpler way, but we can and should do all we can to at least celebrate this holiday as it was meant. Giving thanks for all that we have to be thankful for.
