A little thing we call lawn seeding & core aeration is best done August 15th through September 15th for the ideal time to plant grass seed in bare areas and to core aerate turfgrass in central Indiana.
Seeding at this time of the year is optimal because of adequate soil moisture, warm soil temperature, and limited competitions from weeds. This ensures adequate growth, development, and establishment of turfgrass before the stressful conditions of the following summer. Remember to always buy your grass seed from a reputable source to limit weed contamination.
Core aerating is one of the most beneficial maintenance practices in established turfgrass. Core aerating reduces thatch, which allows better movement of water and air into the root system. A reduced thatch layer minimizes an environment
that harbors insects and disease and allows fertilizers and turf products to work more effectively. The process of core aerating also stimulates grass plants to produce more roots and shoots promoting optimal turfgrass health and making turfgrass more resistant to drought.
Although not an overwhelmingly exciting thing to talk about, it is none the less an important topic. Give us a call to set up an appointment or for any question, so that we can help you have the lawn of your dreams.
